A shooting in eastern Jefferson County left one guy dead and another in jail.
On Monday evening about 7 o’clock, there was a shooting on Town and County Circle.
According to witnesses, the victim and the suspect got into a verbal argument that turned physical, according to sheriff’s Lt. Joni Monday. The victim was reportedly hit by the suspect’s single shot during the altercation.
After being transported to UAB Hospital, the subject was ultimately declared deceased.
Deondre Montray Hollice was the victim, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. He was 31 and a Birmingham resident.
The suspect dialed 911 and waited for deputies at the site.
Eslam Mohamed Zaki, a suspect aged 21, was detained and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of murder. He is still detained without bond.
