Senator Jibrin Barau also emerged as the Deputy President unopposed.
Upon the announcement of the results, Yari embraced the newly elected Senate president and extended his congratulations.
The Deputy Director-General of the Yari Campaign Team, Senator Abdul Ningi, reacted to the election and the outcome of it. He affirmed that the election was fair and lacked the anticipated dramatic tensions.
He emphasised that the Senate stands out from other institutions due to the transparency demonstrated during the election. Furthermore, Ningi highlighted the remarkable disappearance of animosity between the opposing camps during the voting process.
Ningi stated, “The election was free and fair without much-anticipated drama. That is what makes the institution of the Senate different. The animosity, the fear of what happened in the last two days completely vanished. You go into the hall and you see how people are embracing themselves, and that is parliament, and that is democracy.”
