Police have identified both the suspect and victim involved in a fatal stabbing that occurred on Thursday on South Redwood Road in Salt Lake City.
According to reports, a 53-year-old man named Todd Kingston is accused of using a “large knife” to stab a 40-year-old man named Cody Myers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, June 1, following an argument between the two individuals at approximately 5:30 p.m. First responders provided life-saving efforts to Myers before he was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
A stabbing incident on S. Redwood Rd. has resulted in one fatality, with the suspect now in custody. The suspect, identified as Kingston, had initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police at around 6 p.m. that same night.
Kingston has since been booked in Salt Lake County Metro Jail. The accused is facing charges of first-degree felony murder and second-degree felony obstruction of justice.
As per a witness who contacted 911, Kingston, also known as “Diablo” on the streets, and Myers were acquaintances and were engaged in a conversation while seated inside Myers’ vehicle.
According to a witness, they had briefly left the area to visit a nearby gas station. Upon their return, they observed the two individuals engaged in a verbal altercation outside the vehicle.

According to the witness, Myers returned to his car but then emerged two minutes later to confront Kingston once again. According to reports, Myers was reportedly on the verge of engaging in a physical altercation with Kingston without any weapons.

After fleeing the scene, Kingston was later found on the Jordan River Trail. According to reports, a search of the suspect’s possessions during the time of his apprehension yielded a small quantity of methamphetamine, a pocket knife, and various other items.
According to reports, the knife that was allegedly used in the stabbing has not yet been found. According to police, Kingston exercised his right to counsel before giving a statement.
As per the booking affidavit, it has been reported that Kingston is presently residing in a backyard belonging to one of his acquaintances. According to court documents, Kingston has a violent past, having been previously convicted of felony aggravated assault and attempted aggravated assault.
