Dorchester shooting victim identified as Haverhill pastor, Daniel Mayers

Police on Thursday named Daniel Mayers, 33, as the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this week on Columbia Road in Dorchester.

According to his family, Mayers served as a church leader in Haverhill. He was also a former Boston Public Schools employee.

On Monday afternoon, police discovered Mayers, 33, in a car close to 243 Columbia Road with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. According to his family, he was roughly half a mile from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where his father, the Rev. Thomas W. O. Mayers, served as rector for almost 20 years.

Mayers was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead, according to the police.
