Kano State House of Assembly has reacted to the reported moves to amend the State’s Emirate Council Law with a view to returning the ousted Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, to the throne and described it as ‘concocted fake news.’ The Assembly also dismissed speculations that it would dethrone the five New Emirs of Gaya, Bichi, Rano, and Karaye to allow dethroned Emir Sanusi II to have full control of the Kanor Emirates. Politics Nigeria gathered that Social media was awash with speculations on Wednesday, June 14, that the Assembly is scheduled to revisit the issue of the Kano Emirates, with the Kano Emirates Amendment bill 2023 to be read by the majority leader, Lawan Hussaini, member representing Dala constituency on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
The report was that the house intend to deliberate on the issue and approve the amendment that will later allow for the removal of the emirs and the return of Khalifa Sanusi II as Emir of Kano, with the assent of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Addressing newsmen after the plenary, the majority leader, Lawan Hussaini, described the news as fake.
Hussaini made it clear that there was never a move for him to read such an amendment as the issue was never discussed.
