In California, the search for a 4-year-old boy will persist following the tragic discovery of his 8-year-old sister’s body. The young girl was swept away by the swift waters.
On Sunday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m., a child’s mother and a friend made an attempt to transport the children to a rock across the Kings River in Fresno County.
At the bottom of Pine Flat Dam, deputies were summoned to search for an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy who had been swept downstream.
The search for the missing individual was a collaborative effort between the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, Swift Water Rescue team, and various other agencies.
One hour later, the deputies discovered the 8-year-old girl submerged in water.
In Fresno County, the Kings River continues to be closed to the public.
After conducting search operations until sundown, rescue teams resumed their efforts to locate the boy on Monday morning.
According to Lt. Brandon Pursell, “This is a very sad day for all of us, and it’s a very sad day for the family.” The plea from the speaker was clear: “We need people to listen to us, pay attention.”
According to officials, parents who permit their children to enter the water may be charged with child neglect and child endangerment.
