In Georgia, a couple by the names of Tyler Schindley and Krista Schindley have been taken into custody on charges of child abuse and neglect. The arrest came after their 10-year-old son was spotted wandering around their neighborhood in a state of hunger, searching for a grocery store to beg for food.
On Friday, Gryphon Police detained Tyler and Krista following a report from their neighbors that their emaciated boy was missing and found wandering on the streets. The child pleaded with the officers not to make him go back to his parents.
According to reports, the child was allegedly intentionally starved and found weighing around 36 pounds, equivalent to the average weight of a 4-year-old, at the time of his rescue.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Gryphon District Attorney Marie Broder stated, “This child was simply starved to death, and it is tragic.” According to the speaker, if he had not escaped from that family, the outcome would have been significantly different.
According to court filings, the parents have been accused of locking their youngster in his bedroom and leaving him alone in the house for extended periods of time, without access to lights, food, clothing, or adult interaction and/or assistance, on multiple occasions.
The individuals in question are Tyler and Krista Schindley. Georgia parents have been arrested after their son ran away to beg for food due to starvation.
According to reports, the 10-year-old was reportedly denied hot water, outside views, toilet paper, and human connection by the individuals responsible for his care. Additionally, it is alleged that the child was physically assaulted, resulting in severe injuries.
A malnourished infant has been transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment of malnutrition and a low heart rate. According to reports, the young child experienced dental injury and disfiguration due to malnourishment, which his parents reportedly failed to address.
According to Broder, who has dedicated most of her career to prosecuting alleged child abusers, this case is deeply troubling. The individual expressed that the situation is extremely saddening.
According to officials, additional children were found in the home and have been placed in the custody of the state’s Department of Family and Children’s Services. The Schindleys are facing charges of felony criminal attempts, false imprisonment, two counts of violence, and three counts of cruelty to children.
