Recent Palestine High School graduate, Ju’Mija Clewis identified among 3 killed in solo crash near Tyler

The deceased victims in a single-vehicle crash near Tyler early Saturday have now been identified as Raven M. Clewis, 19, of Dallas, Jumija J. Clewis, 17, or Elkhart, and Sherie Butler, 17, of Palestine.

According to Palestine ISD officials, Ju’Mija Clewis was a recent Palestine High School graduate, and Sheriee Butler was an eleventh grader in the district.

Authorities have confirmed that the collision took place in the 14000 block of FM 2661, just south of Tyler. At the site of the collision were SCED2 Noonday Fire, Dixie Fire, Flint-Gresham Fire, Captain 1, UT EMS, SCSO, and DPS.

Six people were confirmed to have been involved in the one-vehicle accident by the authorities. According to the preliminary report made public by Texas DPS, Raven M. Clewis, 19, of Dallas, was the driver of the 2017 Nissan Altima that contained the six female passengers. The Altima off the road and collided head-on with a tree when it was moving northbound on FM 2661. The driver passed away.

Three passengers were hurt in the accident. They have been identified as Jaylah Spurlock, 17, Brianna S. Price, 17, and Chimsi Okonkwo, 16, all of Palestine, according to the DPS.
