An officer in South Carolina is being praised by the police for her swift actions in apprehending a suspect accused of shooting and kidnapping.
Officer Wallace of the North Myrtle Beach Police Department spotted a white Jeep running a red light while patrolling on Highway 17 in the early hours of last Sunday.
According to police, Wallace conducted a traffic stop and observed a woman behind the wheel with a male passenger. The woman’s distress did not go unnoticed by her.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the female passenger reportedly mouthed the words “help me” repeatedly while the male passenger was not looking at the driver.
According to reports, Wallace has reportedly taken notice of the message from the driver. The woman successfully extracted the man from the Jeep and transferred him to the rear seat of her police vehicle.
According to the police, upon returning to the Jeep, the driver informed Wallace that the passenger had recently committed a shooting. Shortly after, a police radio broadcasted an alert instructing officers to be on the lookout for the Jeep.
29-year-old Collins Bates was arrested following the incident.
According to a police report from Horry County, Bates allegedly shot an individual in the stomach outside of The Waterway House, a restaurant located in the Myrtle Beach area. According to reports, the suspect purportedly compelled the driver of the Jeep to transport him away from the location.
According to the police, Bates was located within minutes thanks to Wallace. According to the arrest warrants, the caliber of the casing found at the shooting scene matched the gun that was discovered underneath his seat in the Jeep. According to reports, Bates was in possession of the firearm in violation of the law.
According to a recent post by the police department, Officer Wallace’s proactive patrolling of North Myrtle Beach’s streets, even during the last 30 minutes of her shift, resulted in the arrest of a suspect involved in a shooting.
According to reports, Bates is currently facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping.
The individual is currently detained at J. Reuben Long Detention Center without the option of posting bond.
