According to New Hampshire officials, a man shot and killed a woman and their 18-month-old daughter, as well as injuring another child before taking his own life hours later on the bank of the Merrimack River.
During an evening news conference, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Adam Woods reported that Jamie Bell, a 42-year-old man, was spotted running away from a residence in Franklin on Saturday afternoon. According to neighbors, gunshots were heard.
According to Woods, Nicole Hughes, aged 35, and her daughter with Jamie Bell, Ariella Bell, were found shot to death when the police arrived at their home.
According to Woods, Hughes and Jamie Bell were “intimate partners.” No further details on their relationship were provided by him.
According to Woods, Hughes’ 5-year-old daughter from a previous relationship sustained a gunshot wound to her arm and a cut on her back. A hospital in Massachusetts received her for medical attention. According to sources, the injuries sustained by the individual were deemed non-life-threatening.
After being identified as a person of interest, Bell was searched for by police on foot and by helicopter for several hours.
Police cautioned residents to remain indoors during the search as Bell was thought to be armed and dangerous.
According to the station, neighbor Kimberly Michaels ensured that they locked up immediately and kept the children away from the windows. The individual expressed their sympathy towards the family.
Autopsies conducted on Sunday have confirmed that Hughes and her daughter were killed, while Jamie Bell died from a single, self-inflicted wound to the neck. The manner of Bell’s death has been officially ruled as suicide.
