In a tragic turn of events, the father of an individual who was being questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) regarding the train arson attack in Kozhikode, Kerala, was discovered deceased in a Kochi hotel on Friday, May 19.
A man named Mohammed Shafi, originally from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, was discovered deceased in the bathroom of his hotel room. On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) questioned Mohammed Monis,
the son of the individual in question. Monis was subsequently summoned for further questioning the following day.
According to sources, last week, officers from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out search operations at approximately 10 locations in and around the Shaheen Bagh locality in relation to the case.
According to a report citing the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the search locations encompassed the properties of Shahrukh Saifi, who is the primary suspect in the case, as well as several other suspects.
On April 2, an arson attack occurred on the Alappuzha Kannur Express train as it was nearing Elathur station in Kozhikode district.
According to reports, Shahrukh Saifi is accused of spraying petrol on passengers and setting them on fire. In a tragic incident, three individuals, one of whom was a two-year-old child, reportedly disembarked from a moving train in a state of panic, resulting in their deaths.
The bodies of the individuals were found on the railway tracks at a later time. Noufeeq, Rahmat, and two-year-old Zahra have been reported as deceased.
Saifi, a resident of Shaheen Bagh, was apprehended by the Maharashtra police two days after the arson incident on suspicion of being involved in the crime. Initially, the individual was handed over to the custody of the Kerala police. Subsequently, the investigation was assumed by the NIA.
On Thursday, Inspector General of Police P Vijayan was suspended for reportedly leaking information about the transportation of Saifi from Maharashtra to Kochi.
According to reports, Vijayan and another police officer, who were not involved in transporting Saifi, allegedly made contact with the officers who were accompanying the accused.
