On Thursday, a man aged 49 was declared dead after being struck by a truck while crossing the street in Northwest D.C.
The deadly crash that took place at the intersection of 5th and H streets is currently under investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department.
According to investigators, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a 2022 Mack truck was traveling north in the 700 block of 5th Street, Northwest. The truck then made a right turn onto H Street, Northwest in order to travel east.
According to police reports, a man was walking north on 5th Street and allegedly tried to cross over H Street using the designated crosswalk. According to investigators, the moment when he was struck by a Mack truck was when the incident occurred. The truck was reportedly making a right turn at the time.
The victim was transported to a local hospital by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
The victim was pronounced dead after all life-saving efforts failed.
According to the police, the vehicle that caused the collision stayed at the location.
The victim in this case has been identified by detectives as Chad Nieboer, a 49-year-old resident of Northwest, D.C.
