Missing; Utah County teen dies after report of drowning at Palisade Lake

In central Utah, a teenager from Utah County has passed away subsequent to being discovered unconscious in the water at a lake by first responders.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, officials were dispatched to Palisade Lake at Palisade State Park in response to a report of a possible drowning.

According to state park officials, a young man named Alejandro Morales, 18, from Goshen, Utah, was swimming with his companions in the lake when the weather started to worsen. The officials reported that Morales did not have a life jacket on at the time.

A tragic incident occurred near Provo River where a 2-year-old boy lost his life. The toddler reportedly wandered away and drowned in an inlet.

According to a press release, individuals in the vicinity provided aid to other swimmers who were struggling, but were unable to reach Morales. After Morales submerged himself, witnesses immediately contacted 911 for assistance when he failed to resurface.

According to officials, Morales was discovered in 15 to 20 feet of water, with a surface temperature of around 65 degrees, following a search of the area.

Upon responding to the scene, Morales was found unconscious and subsequently retrieved and transported to Gunnison Valley Hospital, where he later passed away.

A woman and her two children were rescued after their car became submerged in the Tooele reservoir.

The Utah Division of State Parks, Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office, Sanpete County Search and Rescue, Gunnison Valley Police Department, and Ephraim City Police Department were among the responding agencies.

During the incident, park visitors were quick to assist in the immediate search of the area.

According to state park officials, as the recreation season kicks off, it is imperative for outdoor enthusiasts to prioritize safety measures.

As per safety guidelines, it is recommended to always have a companion while engaging in recreational activities, wear appropriate safety gear such as life jackets and helmets, and inform someone about your intended destination and expected time of return. According to the user, it is crucial to check weather conditions and water temperatures.
