Two brothers have been sentenced to jail after they beat a vulnerable man to death and then stole his car and bank card.
On July 23rd of last year, Matthew and Luke Roe allegedly killed 85-year-old Henry Thwaites, an acquaintance of their mother, after convincing him to drive them to a secluded area.
According to reports from Nottingham Crown Court, the individuals in question allegedly committed murder in Lime Tree Avenue, Worksop.
The motive for the crime was reportedly due to the victim’s recent inheritance of £34,000. According to sources, it was also believed that he had sexually abused an individual known to them.
According to the jurors, it was revealed that Mr. Thwaites had allegedly proposed to purchase a car for the brothers and was under the impression that he was driving them to inspect a Mercedes on the evening they committed the murder.
At approximately 10:40 pm, the victim was forcibly removed from his Fiat Punto and subjected to a vicious and premeditated assault that ultimately resulted in his death. The attack has been characterized as brutal by authorities.
After obtaining the correct pin, the brothers proceeded to use his bank card at several cash machines.
According to prosecutors, they have implied that the pin may have been acquired through the use of torture during a “sustained and prolonged” assault on Mr. Thwaites.
The body of Mr. Thwaites was discovered the following morning by a member of the public, located beneath a metal fence. According to reports, the individual in question had sustained a total of 26 head injuries, which included fractures to the skull.
Two individuals, identified as Matthew (25) and Luke (34), were apprehended by law enforcement officials for allegedly driving Mr. Thwaites’ vehicle within an hour of his reported disappearance.
According to forensic analysis, spots of Mr. Thwaites’ blood were found on the clothing of the individual in possession of his bank card.

In a nine-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, Luke from Potter Street, Worksop and Matthew from Franklin Road, Jacksdale were found guilty of murder on May 26, 2023.
In the latest development, Matthew has been convicted of four counts of fraud by false representation in connection with Mr. Thwaites’s bank card. Meanwhile, Luke has been found guilty of one count of fraud by false representation, according to the jury’s verdict.
In a recent development, Luke has been found guilty of criminal damage. The charges were pressed against him after he was accused of damaging a car windscreen using an unopened beer can.
Following the murder, the brothers made their way to Abby Dixon’s residence located on Watson Road. Dixon assisted them in discarding their clothing by disposing of it in a waste bin.
A 27-year-old individual, who was involved in a sexual relationship with Luke, has been found guilty by the jury on two counts of assisting an offender. The sentencing for this case is scheduled for 12 June.
