Alleged Intruder Shot During Home Invasion By Centerville Homeowner

In Centerville, a shooting occurred early Thursday morning during a home invasion, resulting in the death of a man.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified Joseph Gibson, aged 36 and hailing from Dayton, as the victim of the shooting that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

According to Centerville Public Information Officer John Davis, officers were sent to the 9700 block of Sheehan Road just before 5 a.m. following a report from a woman at the residence that an individual was trying to break in.

According to the woman, there is currently an attempted break-in at her residence, as reported to the dispatchers.

A shooting incident in Centerville has resulted in the death of one man, as seen in the accompanying photos.

According to Davis, a loud noise resembling a gunshot was audible over the phone as officers were en route to the residence.

Upon their arrival, officers were greeted by a man at the front door who claimed to have shot an intruder inside his home.

According to reports, Gibson was found by officers lying on the floor inside the front door with a gunshot wound to the head. The individual was declared dead at the location by authorities.

According to Davis, a 40-year-old female was found lying face down in the front lawn, unresponsive but breathing, by officers. According to reports, she was transported by medical personnel to a nearby medical facility to receive treatment for issues not related to the shooting incident.

There were no additional injuries reported.
