Woman Sentenced In Kano To 3 Months In Prison For Calling Friend Prostitude

Habiba has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Kano State Sharia court for calling her friend, Rukayya Muhammad, a prostitute.

Habiba was taken to court by the police for referring to her friend as “sharmota” (prostitute) on her WhatsApp status.

A message was sent to a friend living in Saudi Arabia. The same message was sent to them.

She pleaded guilty when the charges were read against her.

Habiba was found guilty by Judge Mallam Sani Tanimu Sani Hausawa and was given a sentence of three months in prison or a fine of N40,000.

The judge ordered the defendant to add their friend in Saudi Arabia on WhatsApp and confess that they were lying, while also begging for forgiveness.
