According to the Beaumont police, a body was discovered by first responders in the LNVA canal located behind West End Lodge on Major Drive. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. has informed that the deceased individual is a 17-year-old male who has been identified. However, the police are withholding the name of the victim until his family is notified.
According to investigators, the teenager who was shouting at individuals on Friday afternoon at the complex and subsequently leaped into the canal while yelling that he was unable to swim, has been identified as the same individual.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officials were called to a disturbance. Their efforts to communicate with the teenager, who was clad in red shorts and shirtless, were hindered by the dense foliage and his position atop a 20-foot levee.
According to witnesses present on a second story landing, a man was reportedly shouting before leaping into the canal. Upon entering the water, he immediately began flailing his arms and shouting that he was unable to swim.
After navigating through dense foliage and reaching the summit of the levee, law enforcement officials found no trace of the adolescent or any indication of his whereabouts.
The search for the missing individual was conducted by the Beaumont Fire Department Dive Team until almost 9 p.m. However, the team was unable to locate the individual.
In a breaking news development, a suspect in a mass murder case has been apprehended in Southeast Texas. The individual’s identity has not been released at this time.
Additionally, on Saturday morning at approximately 11 a.m., a body was discovered in the water near the entrance of a canal. Further details regarding the incident are currently unknown.
An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Collins.
