Tragedy struck the South Side of the city when a shooting occurred, leaving a 14-year-old boy dead and four others injured, including the alleged suspect. According to reports, three police officers were injured and subsequently hospitalized for observation.
As per a preliminary statement by the police, a group of individuals carrying firearms discharged rounds towards another group in the 4200 block of South Wells at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon receiving a ShotSpotter alert, police officers arrived at the scene and discovered several individuals on the ground with injuries, as well as a male individual in possession of a firearm. As per the police, shots were fired by the armed man towards the officers.
According to police, an officer discharged their weapon in response to gunfire and the suspect fled from the location. The suspect was apprehended and detained shortly thereafter. A man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. It remains unclear how he sustained the injury at this point in time.

A young woman, aged 21, sustained a gunshot wound to her hand and was taken to Insight Hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the killing of a volleyball coach in Waukegan.
Three police officers have been transported to a local hospital for observation. According to police, two handguns were found at the location.
The shooting is currently under investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). According to sources, the officers involved in the incident will be assigned to routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
