Grammy-award winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has seemingly reacted after his colleague, Davido, classified him as a “new cat.”
The 30BG boss caused a buzz on the internet on Thursday when, in an interview, he referred to Burna Boy as a new cat, a term many believe represents up-and-coming artists.
During the interview with Brut, Davido stated that he and Wizkid were the pioneer artists who paved the way for the global recognition and popularity of Afrobeat music, before artists like “Burna Boy, Rema, Asake,” whom he referred to as “new cats,” entered the scene.
“Everybody knows that I was one of the first, along with Wizkid, to blow up. It feels good to see the new cats coming up, like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Asake, and Mayorkun,” he said.
While the term “new cat” sparked a debate about the array of stars in the Nigerian music industry on social media, Burna Boy appeared unfazed.
Amidst the buzz, Burna Boy shared photos from his record-breaking London concert on his Instagram page. In the caption, he noted that his goal is to leave an impact that will last for eternity.
“Uniting people from all walks of life has always been my dream. London, thank you for making it possible for me at my biggest show to date! Shout out to my family @theuglygram @santandave @popcaanmusic and Stormzy We’re Leaving an Impact for Eternity. Love, Damini.” He wrote.
Burna’s post, which fans speculate is a reply to Davido’s “new cat” comment, has further elicited reactions from fans and followers.
