According to the Clatsop County medical examiner, the body discovered along the Oregon coast in the early hours of Sunday has been identified as an 18-year-old from Beaverton who had been reported missing.
On Monday, Elizabeth DeVisser, Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator for the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, announced that the body discovered in Cannon Beach has been identified as Jacob Stokes.
On May 12, Stokes was reported missing after he and three other Mountainside High School students were struck by a wave while wading in the ocean near Cannon Beach.
In previous news, the Beaverton School District has identified an 18-year-old student from Mountainside High School who went missing off the coast of Oregon.
According to a statement posted on the Cannon Beach Police Department’s Facebook page, a body was found early this morning in the tideline in Tolovana.
It is believed that the recovered body is that of the swimmer who went missing on May 12th, based on the circumstances. The public is urged to keep the family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
Four Mountainside High School students were swept out to sea after being hit by a wave and pulled out in a rip tide. Among them was Stokes.
According to reports, two students managed to extricate themselves from the water without assistance. A rescue swimmer had to rescue one individual.
