Earlier in the day, Governor Alex Otti convened a meeting with the 24 members-elect of the Assembly to discuss the speaker and deputy speaker positions. The objective was to reach a consensus among the lawmakers.
The battle for the speakership primarily revolved around three candidates: Emmanuel Emeruwa from the Labour Party, Destiny Akaraka from the Labour Party, and Solomon Akpulonu from the People’s Democratic Party, representing Aba South, Aba North, and Obingwa East, respectively.
The lawmakers also elected Austine Okezie, who represents Umuahia East State Constituency, as the Deputy Speaker.
