Champaign Woman Arraigned on Fatal Murder Charges After Domestic Dispute

In Champaign, a woman has been charged with murder following a domestic dispute that turned fatal over the weekend, according to authorities.

Vincent R. Taylor, a 34-year-old resident of Champaign, was identified as the victim by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office. On the same day, Taneshia Brooks, his girlfriend, was arraigned on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery.

On Monday, a bond of $500,000 was set for the defendant. The next court appearance is scheduled for June 28.

According to Coroner Duane Northrup, Mr. Taylor was declared dead at 5:13 a.m. on Sunday at the emergency department of OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana.

As per a Champaign police report, the authorities were informed about the identity of Mr. Taylor’s girlfriend shortly after being summoned to OSF. Following this, Brooks was apprehended at their common abode located in the 600 block of East Bradley Avenue.

According to police, the initial investigation suggests that there was a domestic dispute between the victim and Brooks, resulting in the victim being stabbed.

As per the report, a witness informed the police that there existed a prolonged history of domestic violence between the accused and the victim.

According to a witness, there was a verbal argument outside the residence early Sunday that seemed to have been resolved when Mr. Taylor and Brooks entered the premises, as reported to the police. Shortly after the incident, the victim emerged from the residence and entered a red vehicle.
