Georgia State Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash involving a 2020 Toyota Highlander on I-75 southbound at MM 324 on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 1:57 p.m.
A metal pipe shattered through the windshield on the front passenger side of the Highlander as it was moving southbound in the center lane of I-75. The front seat occupant suffered a neck impalement from the pipe. On-site medical personnel declared the victim dead.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 were shut down for roughly an hour as Life Force provided first aid.
The pipe on the roadway apparently flew into the air after being struck by another vehicle. Nothing on how the pipe got there has been reported.
The victim was identified as Buford, Georgia resident Lynn Ann Fleming.
Authorities are currently conducting more investigations.
