Kafayat Shafau, also known as Kaffy, a dancer, claims that her matrimonial ordeal with her ex-husband, John Ameh, transformed her worldview and attitude on some characteristics of individuals and their disposition.
Despite his reserved demeanour, she claimed Ameh made her afraid of calm individuals because of his behaviour.
The award-winning dancer revealed this during an interview with Chude Jideonwo on her marital woes.
Ameh’s philandering attitude, she claimed, made her doubt her own worthiness.
“At first, I felt I’d discovered someone who could absolutely make me happy,” she explained. But that was egotistical thinking. No one should be the source of one’s happiness.
“You’ll believe he can’t hurt a fly when you see him (her spouse) since he’s always peaceful.” He has instilled in me a fear of quiet people. I held him in high respect until I had to confront him about how he was treating me. I inquired as to what he had against me that he was sleeping around with my best buddies. I realised I had to let him go if I truly loved him.”
The dancer also revealed that after she stopped sleeping with her ex-husband, she began to heal. “When I stopped sleeping with him, I started experiencing more healing,” she explained. Before getting married, I was celibate for three years.
Kaffy went on to say that the interpersonal violence she witnessed between her parents made her believe that marrying Ameh would offer her joy.
