In a recent development, Fairfax County police have officially confirmed that the human remains discovered at Shenandoah National Park during the weekend belong to Mateo Cobo Zevallos.
The body has been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas, Virginia for the purpose of positive identification. Officials are currently investigating the cause of death.
According to a tweet from Fairfax County police, Mateo was discovered deceased yesterday in Shenandoah National Park. The individual’s friends and family are in our thoughts. According to sources, there is no suspicion of foul play. The user expressed gratitude for the information shared.
On May 9, Zevallos was reported missing. He was last seen departing from his residence in Oakton, Virginia and heading towards George Mason University on May 5.
On Wednesday, a search was initiated by Shenandoah National Park Rangers following the discovery of Zevallos’ vehicle in a parking lot located in the northern region of Shenandoah National Park, in close proximity to the Overall Runs Falls Trail.
After a week-long search, officials discovered a body in the park, located less than two miles away from where Zevallos’ car was parked. The body was found in steep terrain near multiple rock outcrops.
