The family of the victim in a fatal San Jose crash on Sunday has identified him, and new details from the police are revealing more about the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

At the scene of the crash, Jefferson Smith, aged 26, was pronounced dead. According to Smith’s family, he hails from San Jose del Guaviare in Colombia.
According to his family, he arrived in the United States a mere three months ago with the intention of fulfilling his own aspirations as well as those of his loved ones. The family of Smith is requesting donations to repatriate his body to Colombia for a Christian burial.
According to the San Jose Police Department, a man driving a white 2011 Toyota Corolla sedan entered the northbound lanes of Leigh Avenue heading the wrong way, resulting in a crash around 1:30 p.m.
According to the police, a collision occurred at the intersection of Fruitdale Avenue when a Corolla collided with a 2012 Toyota Prius that was traveling northbound.
A woman and a child were passengers in the Prius that was hit, along with a person named Smith. At the scene of a fatal accident, Smith was driving and was pronounced dead.
A woman and a child were rushed to nearby medical facilities with injuries that were deemed life-threatening. However, medical professionals were able to stabilize them. The driver of the Corolla sustained life-threatening injuries and was later stabilized at the hospital.
The collision is still under investigation by the police, who are working to determine the cause and motive behind the incident. As of now, criminal charges have not yet been filed.
The latest traffic incident in San Jose marks the 14th fatal crash since the beginning of 2023, with the city now recording a total of 15 traffic-related deaths this year.
