Thanks to a tip from the public, investigators were able to locate the Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in Saturday’s fatal motorcycle crash on 22nd Avenue South, which resulted in the death of 57-year-old Jonathan Hughes. This development occurred last night.
This afternoon, a 20-year-old man named Jakil Powell from Petersburg surrendered himself to the authorities. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was identified and subsequently arrested. A charge has been brought against him for allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in a fatality.
Jonathan Hughes, the victim, was a committed employee of the City of St. Petersburg for a considerable period of time and had a keen interest in riding motorcycles.
