Denham Springs Police Officer, Shawn Kelly Identified as Victim Injured in Denham Springs Shooting
Corporal Shawn Kelly has been identified by police as the officer hurt in the shooting in Denham Springs.
According to the police chief in Denham Spings, Kelly is currently battling for his life. Just north of I-12, near South Range Avenue, gunshot was reported around 4:20 p.m.
The strip mall and a second location at the intersection of Eugene Street and US 190 were surrounded by officers from multiple agencies.
Officers were called to the parking lot after a disturbance involving an argument between a man and a woman was reported. The guy allegedly started firing when police arrived, and the policemen retaliated.
The shooter, 30-year-old Justin Roberts, started driving away in an SUV, firing more shots as he drove past the police, according to Denham Springs Police Chief Rodney Walker. During the altercation, Denham Springs police officer Corporal Shawn Kelly was shot numerous times.
