Davanta Matthews Identified As Victim Shot, Dead Inside Parking Garage

A man was found dead inside a parking garage on Highland Road, prompting an investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Davanta Matthews, 28, has been identified by the police as the victim.

A shooting occurred at an apartment complex on 3135 Highland Road near Aster Street before 10:30 p.m., as reported by a spokesperson from BRPD.

The body of Matthews was discovered on the second floor of a parking garage, with apparent gunshot wounds.

Late Thursday night, the LSU Police Department issued an emergency alert at approximately 11:55 p.m. regarding a reported incident of shots being fired in the vicinity of Highland at Aster. Police are currently on the scene investigating the matter. The area should be avoided, according to the statement.

At approximately 1 a.m., authorities issued a subsequent notification declaring that there seems to be no danger to the campus. According to sources, the campus is returning to normal operations.

According to LSU officials, the incident took place outside of the university’s campus.
