Tragic news out of Texas as 14-year-old Conner Curtice has been found deceased in a local river. Reports indicate that the young child was thrown from a boat during a Memorial Day accident.
On Monday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported that a boater had contacted 911 to inform that a victim had fallen overboard on the Neches River near Deck Hand Alley.
As per a news release from the sheriff’s office, a caller reported that the victim had fallen into the sea and had not resurfaced.
According to Lindsi Vercher, the organizer of Conner Curtice’s GoFundMe campaign and self-proclaimed lifelong closest friend of Conner’s mother Ashlea Curtice, Conner was ejected from the boat during the accident.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Captain Ryan Hall reportedly confirmed that two individuals were on a boat ride in the vicinity of the NatGasoline plant on Sulphur Plant Road when the watercraft started to fill with water.
As per the report, an 18-year-old who was operating the boat has claimed that he and a young individual were attempting to patch up the holes when the boat suddenly jolted, causing both of them to be thrown off.
As per the sheriff’s office, the body of Conner was found in the river at 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday. An autopsy has been scheduled, according to sources.
Vercher expressed on GoFundMe that their hearts are shattered, but the family has found strength to continue through the overwhelming outpouring of love they have received.
The JCSO’s Marine Division received assistance from the Texas Game Wardens and the Port Neches Fire Department in conducting an initial search of the area. According to the JCSO, crews conducted an extensive search using sonar technology to locate the body.
According to his family, Conner is set to become a freshman at Port Neches-Groves High School in the upcoming academic year.
In the campaign’s description, Vercher expressed gratitude towards the donors and requested them to keep praying for the family in the upcoming weeks and months.
The campaign has received over $53,000 in donations. According to the JCSO, an investigation into Monday’s incident is being led by the Texas Game Wardens.
