Despite their reputation for constantly pushing their material, some Nollywood actors have taken time off social media in the aftermath of the slaughter of some Christians in their place of worship in Owo.
Biodun Okeowo, nicknamed Omoborty, and Wumi Toriola, both Nollywood actresses, have stated that they will be taking a break from Instagram for a few days to de-stress from the incessant negative news that appears to be the order of the day in Nigeria.
The actresses begged for God to take over the country and give people who lost loved ones in the attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday June 5 the strength to bear the loss in their own posts.
During the attack, over 50 worshippers were killed, signalling the start of a massacre of the innocent in the South.
Other celebrities, including Toyin Abraham, Femi Adebayo, Mide Funmi-Martins, and Yewande Adekoya, published posts regarding the attack on the Catholic Church shortly after it occurred on Sunday and have not made any new posts since. Despite the fact that they did not specifically state that they would be taking a break from social media, they appear to be affected by the gruesome incident, as are many Nigerians.
Mercy Johnson-Okojie posted about the Owo church attack at 5 a.m. today, June 6, with a broken heart emoji and the caption ‘Ondo.’
She hasn’t posted anything more since the time of this report, and her profile photo has been replaced with a blank black photo.
